Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition 30 FPS Frame Rate Cap Fix

POST BY ANKUR

We just recently benchmarked Dead Rising 3 and were frustrated to find that there seemed to be no obvious solution to removing the 30 frames per second cap in Dead Rising 3. Capcom had announced it would be locked at 30 FPS by default but that there would be an option to unlock it, but the team couldn't vouch for the stability of the game.
Luckily though, help is at hand, and it’s a pretty simple fix to unlock Dead Rising 3’s frame rate and go beyond the FPS cap seen in the Xbox One version. There’s just a couple of steps you need to follow to get it working, beginning with locating your Dead Rising 3 install.
By default the Dead Rising 3 executable can be found in C: Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ Steam Apps \ Common \ deadrising3. Once you’re inside there should be the file used to launch the game, called deadrising3, with the file type ‘Application.’
That means you’re in the right place, so now just right click on any empty space and select ‘New’. From the available options select ‘Text Document’. Name this document “user.ini”. Once saved, double click it to open it up; it should display a blank text screen. In here add the following line without the quotes - “gmpcr_unlock_frame_rate = True”, and then save the document.
Boot Dead Rising 3 up and the frame rate cap should now be removed, unlocking the Dead Rising 3 frame rate beyond 30 frames per second if your computer is up to it. Dead Rising 3 is pretty demanding on PC so you may need quite a hefty rig to get this game running at its absolute best, so be sure to check out our system requirements page to see how your PC can handle it.
Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition is available from tomorrow on PC, collecting together all of the main game and all of the DLC released so far for the Xbox One version. Keep your eyes on Game Debate for a review over the coming days. What do you think of Capcom's decision to cap Dead Rising 3 at 30 FPS? Have you given the fix a go? Let us know!
